This is an effort to examine effects of religiosity on health behavior among high school students. Data were collected from a convenience sample consisting of high school students of 565 through a self-administered questionnaire survey method. Religiosity was measured by a variety of religious activities. Health behaviors included health-related behaviors identified in the study of Alameda county.
Data revealed that patterns of health behaviors varied among students across three types of high schools, including prep, vocational, and mission schools. Practices of health behaviors were associated with subjective health status, being loved, monthly monetary allowance, religiosity, the number of supporters, a feeling of satisfaction for the school life. Multiple regression analyses by a stepwise method identified the model in which religiosity has effects on health behavior practices. The effects of religiosity on health behaviors were not found in male students.
